The Knowledge Bank trustees in 2012 opted for open-source software to show that it could be used effectively as a long-­lasting and unique public-service while keeping costs to a minimum. The trustees also believe the project can provide a model for other regions in New Zealand. 

Some of the key people giving their time to the project are the following: Linda Ward, database manager and website operator; Grant Ancell, researcher and archivist; Chris Johnson, archivist; Robyn Warren, researcher and archivist; Judy Russell, archivist; Chris Webb, website developer; John Newson, IT specialist; Rachel Johnson, IT specialist and co-ordinator of volunteers; Linda Bainbridge, office manager; Frank Cooper, oral interviewer; Jim Newbigin, oral interviewer; Erica Tenquist, oral interviewer; Bev Burdett, oral history co-ordinator, and many more.

Current trustees are - Peter Dunkerley (Chairman), Dr David Barry, Barry Cole, Linda Ward, Craig Little and Robert Ancell.
